Let's Turn Your Product Idea Into a viable product for Licensing or Venturing.

Every successful product had to be pushed through a series of steps before it was made available on the market.

Invention Process
Starts with an idea in your head, on a napkin, text, email or leave yourself a voice message to capture your idea before it disappears!

  1. Do a little research. Is the idea viable. Go search Google images for your idea. Is it out there already, most times it already is. If it is, can you make it different enough to add value? If it is not out there, is there a potential market for your idea? Complete a google patent search. Is your idea already patented? If it is can you make your idea unique where it can add value an warrant a potential patent!

  2. Bringing your product to life-computer drawings (CAD), identify materials needed and make a prototype. Create iterations of sketches and/or 3-D models to determine the form and function of your ideas! Prototype; Work out the details, make simple prototypes to flush out your ideas. Mix and match and re-work existing products into your product. 3-D printing, Machining, etc... Does not need to be finished or perfect, needs to show the idea is viable.

  3. Attempt for intellectual property protection, including provisional, design, non provisional or utility patent and/or trademark.

  4. Licensing-preparing for licensees and representation. Licensing is an alternative way to bring your idea or invention to market with limited risk using someone else's resources and collecting a royalty payment. Please see Licensing Corner for more information.

  5. Manufacturing-preparing for production and tooling quotes, broker representation.
Marketing- packaging, sales sheets, demo videos, preparing for the pitch to retailers, web and social media presence.

  6. Making the decision of licensing and manufacturing and discussing distribution channels-box big retailers, catalog, as seen on TV, specialty retailers, online retailers, etc.

Each of these steps can be a daunting and costly task in its own right.

That’s why it’s important not to jump into the first stage and spend a lot of money without having an overall plan that makes sense. You don’t want to find yourself stranded in the middle of the process without any money, desperately searching for an investor. Lots of inventors blow their budget on patents and prototypes, all to realize that getting the product made and marketed is usually an equally large expense.

So, make sure to accurately assess what the entire process will realistically look like before spending a dime.
